Dear friend,
Perhaps I’ve never met you before. But I know something about you already. You care to make a difference. If I am right, you and I have kindred spirit. We want to reach out and help those that are forgotten and hopeless.
Nine years ago, I returned to my poor village in Haiti for a visit. The people came in drove to meet and greet me. As I was handing money and gifts to them, a man stepped to the front and said something that is tattooed on my spirit. His name was Alfred.
Alfred wasn’t looking for money. He didn’t show up just to say something. He showed up with something to say. And his words impacted me at my deepest core. He said…
“We are so proud of you! So many people predicted that you would not survive when you were a sick and poor child struggling in this village. Many teased and ridiculed you. Today, you are the son that never forgets us. You bring money and you treat us with respect. God will continue to bless you. You are our village hero.” Then Alfred walked away.
If indeed Alfred is right, I’m a village hero because so many Americans have helped me in one way or another. Many saw more potentials in me than I could see for myself. And so, they cheered me on to go for the American Dream. I’m so thankful!
I never failed to express my gratitude as I travel the length and breadth of this nation to keynote conferences for fortune 500 corporations. Every meeting planner or speakers bureau that booked in the past not only bless me but they also bless a village faraway.
You, too, are a village hero. You know the difference between success and significance. Success is about us. It’s about the big home, car, and bank account. But significance is about leaving a legacy that will outlast us. Significance is more about them than us.
I believe I got out of the village so that I can reach out to the village. God took me out so that I can travel the distances to meet great people like yourself to join forces with me. And so, thank you for your interest.
Our mission is clear and simple. “We are committed to helping neglected kids & their families in poor remote villages in Haiti restore their dignity and live up to their God-given potentials. We want to shine a bright light on their future to show them what’s possible.”
